Did Katrina Kaif learn belly dancing for ‘Ek Tha Tiger’?

The Chikni Chameli babe is amused that people are asking if she has learned the Arabic dance form for the Mashallah song
Salman Khan fans are elated that Ek Tha Tiger is the Eid attraction this year. No doubt ETT mostly belongs to Salman, but his sizzling chemistry with ex-flame Katrina Kaif is also one of the highlights. We agree that the death defying action sequences have left us happy, but let us not take away from Katrina and her killer moves. The Mashallah song is topping the charts and boy, has Kat set the temperatures soaring!

We had recently met the Chikni Chameli babe for a quick chat about her latest outing with the resident tiger of Bollywood. Including other things, her belly dancing in Mashallah came up. She seemed amused when we asked her if she had learned belly dancing for that song. She said, “These days everybody is asking me this question, so I use the opportunity to say that yes, I did learn the dance form and trained very hard (laughs). But jokes apart, there was no real belly dancing in it. Actually ‘Sheila ki jawaani’ had more belly dancing, but a large portion of that got edited out.”

Well, intense training or not, Kat’s moves in the song are definitely quite ‘Mashallah’! We think it is way more sensual than her previous item songs.

Salman Khan returns to IIFA (2012) after two years

The Ek Tha Tiger actor will make his presence felt at the IIFA 2012 to be held in Singapore next month
Contrary to reports that none of the big Khans of Bollywood are going to attend the IIFA this year, a little birdie tell us that Salman Khan will add a dash of glamour and zing by turning up at the awards ceremony. The Dabangg actor will be returning to IIFA after two years. The organisers of the IIFA 2012 have confirmed Sallu bhai’s presence, but it is not clear yet if he will be performing in Singapore.

The IIFA 2012 will be held in from June 7-9 in Lion City, Singapore. The event will be hosted by Shahid Kapoor at the city’s Indoor Stadium and Rowdy Rathore director Prabhu Deva will be the chief choreographer.

We hope Prabhu Deva, who directed Salman Khan in Wanted, will convince Sallu to shake a leg at the event. After all, who doesn’t want to see bhai setting the stage on fire with his quirky dance moves!

Should AR Rahman judge Indian Idol 6?

If Sony officials have their way, Indian Idol 6 is going to be bigger than ever. The channel guys are sparing no effort in bringing AR Rahman on board as a judge on the show. Don’t fret, that doesn’t mean Anu Malik or Salim Suleiman will bow out. There is enough space for three music directors on the judges panel, with the pretty Sunidhi Chauhan joining them.

We can understand why the channelwallahs are desperate to get Rahman to agree. He will definitely bring some more credibility to a show which has until now failed to launch the careers of any of their winners. Rahman is known for discovering several talented singers, and with his support, the Idol can get a whole new career. This will, in turn, add credibility to the show. Rahman is also loved and respected by the public in a way very few musicians are and his presence will definitely increase the show’s ratings.

Yet, what will happen to that respect if he becomes a part of a reality show? It might enhance the show’s credibility but at the same time, make a dent in the image his fans have of him. Indian Idol is not a show about serious music. It is just another reality show which offers celebrity guests a platform to promote their films, has non-singers like Sanjay Dutt as celeb judges and has contestants singing Bollywood songs. Folk music, classical music and other more ‘pure’ forms of music are not given any prominence. While American Idol winners have become part of Hollywood, Indian Idol winners have failed to make their mark. While Rahman is, all said and done, a Bollywood music director, this show is not the kind you tend to associate him with. That’s one reason we are glad he is yet to say yes.

True, Indian Idol 6 is trying to revamp its image, by airing promos that feature only the voice of the contestants, and not their videos. In this season of the show, the focus has shifted from contestants being ‘complete performers’ to just being singers. It’s a good start but we doubt it will be enough to raise the show to a level that will match the stature of Rahman. What do you think?

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to attend 17th edition of Bal de l’Ete

Bal de l’Ete is a famous ball organised in Monaco and attended by renowned personalities from all over the world. And this year, we hear, Ash is all set to be a part of the soiree with husband Abhishek Bachchan and father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan
The theme for this year’s Bal de l’Ete is ‘Princess of Rajasthan’. Celebrating India’s colourful tradition and culture, the event will take place from June 22-24. Other Indian guests expected at the gathering include Maharana Shriji Arvind Singhji Mewar of Udaipur, fashion designers Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla and Raghavendra Rathore. Aishwarya will also make her 11th appearance on the Cannes red carpet this year. With grand events lined up one after the other, we are sure Ash is going to be supremely busy hobnobbing for the next couple of weeks. And as people eagerly wait to know what Ash will be wearing on these big occasions, we think the actor will manage to please everyone in the end…hopefully!

Satyamev Jayate Or May the truth win

Aamir Khan’s first-ever TV show got us thinking
Aamir Khan has been the man of the hour for the past two weeks, with his Satyamev Jayate creating waves all over the country. He even translates all the English words into Hindi to ensure that his message reaches everyone. Of course his humanist avatar is not that much a new thing. We’ve seen him spouting several home truths on the big screen too, especially in Rang De Basanti. We decided to do the opposite of what he does and translated his Hindi lines into English. Take a look and tell us what you think!
